AMSA play their part for those in Haiti

Dear AMSA Members,

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) expresses its deepest sympathies to all those in Haiti affected by the disastrous earthquake.

Our hearts go out to all those in Haiti affected by this tragedy. AMSA supports the work of medical students and health professionals across the country who are helping rebuild after this disaster. We are also deeply grateful for the work of healthcare organizations that are providing much needed medical care to victims of this disaster.

The nation’s post-earthquake needs are tremendous, so if you are able to donate, here are a few ways of contributing:

AMSA National does not endorse any specific charity, the Windsor University SOM Chapter of AMSA will be organizing to provide assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti in the coming days and weeks.

This is a tragic time for many and our thoughts are with the Haitian community during this time.

My family and I would first like to thank all the applicants for sharing their compelling stories about how their personal journeys that has led them to Windsor University of School of Medicine. This scholarship is in the memory of my deceased mother and I know that she would be so impressed with the level of commitment that each of you have shown in your pursuit of being doctors. I feel so overwhelmed that all I can offer is one scholarship yet so many of you are deserving of it. To those applicants who did not win please refrain from thinking that winning is an indication about being unqualified but instead that we only have 1 scholarship right now so I ask that you please just indicate that you are interested in applyling next semester and you will be exempt from sending in a new application.

The Winner for the First Maku Family Scholarship is ADAM PYLE.
Congrats Adam I hope this tiny gift helps you get closer to reaching your dream.

THE MAKU FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Maku Family Scholarship in Medicine supports exceptionally promising students who plan on becoming a medical doctor from Windsor University School of Medicine. The Scholarship provides one semester academic scholarship of $500 USD credited to the selected student's tuition. The Maku Family Scholarship aims to provide 8 $500 USD scholarships per semester by 2013. The recipient will be notified September 21, 2009 by the end of the day.

The criteria will be:
1-2 page essay on "What becoming a doctor will mean to you"
A Reference letter from either a WUSOM professor or from your admissions application
Returning Student in Good Academic Standing (All Impending Retakes must have been taken and passed)

Bobsy’s Meal Plan for Next Semester

Dear Students,

Bobsy's Restaurant is now taking sign-ups for next semester's meal plan. The plan offers a full, balanced meal at discounted prices, free delivery*, and Halal or vegetarian meals. If a minimum of 20 students sign up then you will get an evening buffet with extra choice of a second meat, fish, or chicken dish. A Meal plan costs $600 USD for 90 meals (18 E.C.) , or $450 USD for 60 meals (20 E.C.)

Frigate Bay to IGA & RAMS TAXI Service

a student has taken the initiative to setup a taxi service from Frigate Bay to IGA & RAMS once weekly, on Fridays, leaving Frigate Bay at 5pm & 6pm.
